| It's already been five years since Le Tigre released their last album, the mediocre This Island. And since they finished touring for it, there's been little news from the New York electro-punk trio. Kathleen Hanna spent some time teaching, JD Samson has been DJing and playing live with a new band called MEN, which also includes Le Tigre bandmate Johanna Fateman. Though they insisted they were on an "extended break", all the fans pretty much assumed Le Tigre had broken up. So it's a happy surprise to learn that not only does Le Tigre still exist, but they're in the studio working with one of the biggest pop stars on Planet Earth. Here's what we know: According to gossip maven Perez Hilton and confirmed by their publicist, Le Tigre are working with Christina Aguilera. Yes, all three of them, together. Beyond that, we know nothing about this bizarrely awesome combination. It should be mind-blowing considering their knack with beats and Christina's bombastic set of pipes. Aguilera has also been spending time in the studio with Goldfrapp, Ladytron and Sia. As for Le Tigre, it turns out they've been tentatively reminding the world of their existence for the past couple of months. In a March 19 MySpace blog post, the band apologized for their lack of updates and had this to say: "now we are dedicated to rebuilding our relationship with our fans that we love with all of our hearts." And he's a reliable source I think :( "I have been debating about whether to post this or not for ages as I know people will say I have made it up but this is simply an attempt to stop everyone getting too excited re the album. The album is currently still down for a Nov release but as there has been no news of it, it is most likely to be released early 2010.I am sorry but I just dont want everyone to be disappointed. | Call it a hunch, but I think “Burlesque” already has its place in film history set. Not only will it be the acting debut of Christina Aguilera, but the modern musical has signed on the music icon of all icons: the one and only Cher. Yeah. It’s going to be flamboyant. According to Variety, Aguilera will play an ambitious small-town girl fresh from the cornfields of Iowa. Possessing one heck of a voice (hey, it’s Aguilera) she goes West to pursue her singing and dancing dreams. The aspiring star winds up in a neo-burlesque club on Sunset Boulevard that’s run by Tess (Cher), a former dancer who struggles to keep the club open and gives the young girl a chance to become a star. | Cher joining Aguilera in 'Burlesque' Musical will be first movie star role in a decade In what will be her first movie star role in a decade, Cher is set to join Christina Aguilera in "Burlesque," a contemporary musical for Screen Gems. Steven Antin will direct from a script he wrote that was revised by Susannah Grant (Daily Variety, May 4). Aguilera will play an ambitious small-town Iowa girl with a big voice who comes of age in a neo-burlesque club on Sunset Boulevard that's run by Tess (Cher), a former dancer who struggles to keep the club open and gives the young girl a chance to shine. Cher will sing onscreen. While her voice has been heard in many films, "Burlesque" will mark the first time she'll be seen singing in a film she stars in. Cher last starred in "Tea With Mussolini" in 1999. Donald De Line will produce. Production begins in November. Screen Gems president Clint Culpepper said he has been lobbying Cher to make her screen return, and once she said yes, it was a matter of creating room in her busy schedule of touring and performing in Las Vegas.
